|
(CLICK-ON EITHER MAP TO VIEW A LARGER MORE DETAILED VERSION)
Information for the above web-page compiled from the D.S.R. TRANSPORTATION GUIDE OF 1950 street guide and route map (Sept 1950); and the May-June 1993 edition of Motor Bus Society's Motor Coach Age Magazine titled "Detroit's DSR, Part 3" by Jack E. Schramm.

The above map (displayed in a condensed version for web-page viewing) shows the Detroit D.S.R. (Department of Street Railways)
rail and bus operation as it existed in September of 1950. In 1950, the Detroit DSR provided service along 10 streetcar routes and 67
bus routes, and operated with a fleet of 463 streetcars, 2,088 buses, and 60 electric trolley-buses. The DSR's total patronage in 1950
numbered 331,782,828 passengers, while servicing a (service area) population of 2.1 million.
In the above route map—and the accompanying larger detailed version—the rail lines are displayed in red while the coach routes are
displayed in green. Rush hour only bus routes are featured in broken green lines.
Also visible above is an inset map which shows the coach and rail boarding stations located within the downtown area. The larger
more detailed version of both maps are accessible by clicking on either map, which will open a separate viewing window or tab.
Below is a listing of the rail and coach lines visible on the above map. Just like in the route map above, the rail lines are listed in red
and the coach lines in green.
